Richard Heart’s Rise and Fall? The Billion Dollar Crypto Story Still Unfolding

There was a time when it felt like Richard Heart was everywhere in crypto.

Open YouTube and there was another video. Scroll through social media and there was another luxury watch. Another sports car. Another post showing a lifestyle that most people could only dream about. While many cryptocurrency founders tried to market technology, Heart appeared to market something else entirely. He marketed success.

For thousands of supporters, that image was part of the appeal. Heart, born Richard Schueler, positioned himself as someone who had figured out the financial game long before everyone else. He spoke with confidence, challenged critics openly, and built a loyal following around projects such as HEX, PulseChain, and PulseX. During the height of the crypto boom, that formula worked remarkably well.

But the same image that helped make Heart famous would eventually become one of the biggest sources of controversy surrounding him.

The debate over Richard Heart has always been unusually intense. Supporters see a founder who challenged traditional finance and built a dedicated community. Critics see a master marketer whose projects generated attention through promises of wealth and eye catching displays of luxury. Years later, that divide remains as strong as ever.

Heart’s rise began with HEX, a cryptocurrency project launched in late 2019. He described it as a blockchain version of a certificate of deposit. Users could lock up their tokens for a period of time and earn rewards. At a moment when crypto investors were searching for the next big opportunity, the idea attracted significant interest.

As prices climbed, so did Heart’s profile.

Videos promoting HEX often focused on performance and returns. Supporters shared stories of substantial gains. Social media channels filled with enthusiastic testimonials. For believers, HEX represented a financial breakthrough. For skeptics, it raised uncomfortable questions.

Some analysts questioned the structure of the project. Others pointed to concerns about token concentration and ownership. Critics frequently argued that the marketing surrounding HEX focused too heavily on wealth creation and not enough on practical utility. Those debates became a constant feature of online discussions.

Heart rarely backed away from criticism. If anything, he often leaned into it.

Unlike some founders who avoided public confrontation, Heart seemed willing to engage directly with critics. His confidence attracted supporters who admired his willingness to fight back. It also attracted critics who believed his public persona overshadowed legitimate concerns about the projects themselves.

Then came July 2023.

That was the moment the controversy surrounding Heart moved far beyond crypto forums and social media arguments.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit against Heart and the projects associated with him. According to the SEC, more than $1 billion had been raised through unregistered crypto asset securities offerings tied to HEX, PulseChain, and PulseX. The agency alleged that investors were offered crypto assets that should have been registered under federal securities laws.

The lawsuit immediately became one of the most closely watched crypto enforcement actions in recent years.

The allegations extended beyond registration issues. Regulators claimed that millions of dollars linked to investor funds were used for luxury purchases. The complaint referenced expensive watches, sports cars, and a rare black diamond known as The Enigma. According to the SEC, more than $12 million was spent on luxury goods.

Those allegations generated headlines around the world.

Part of the reason was simple. The purchases described by regulators closely matched the image Heart had spent years presenting online. The luxury lifestyle was already part of his public identity. Seeing those same items appear in a regulatory complaint naturally drew attention.

Heart denied wrongdoing and challenged the allegations.

His supporters viewed the lawsuit as another example of regulators targeting the cryptocurrency industry. Critics viewed it very differently. To them, the allegations appeared to reinforce concerns that had existed long before the SEC became involved.

As the legal battle unfolded, another reality was becoming harder to ignore.

The crypto market was no longer experiencing the explosive growth that had fueled so much excitement in previous years. Many digital assets suffered steep declines. Investors who entered near market highs often faced painful losses. Projects that once looked unstoppable suddenly appeared far more vulnerable.

The changing market environment led many people to revisit old questions.

Were investors fully aware of the risks involved? Did marketing create unrealistic expectations? Were some founders benefiting regardless of whether ordinary investors made money?

These questions were not unique to Richard Heart. They became central issues across the cryptocurrency industry after the boom years ended. Yet because Heart was such a visible figure, many of those conversations eventually returned to him.

Then, in early 2025, the story took another unexpected turn.

A federal judge dismissed the SEC’s lawsuit.

The decision sparked immediate celebration among Heart’s supporters. Across social media, many described the ruling as a complete victory. Some claimed it proved regulators had failed to build a legitimate case.

The legal reality was more nuanced.

The court did not rule that the SEC’s allegations were false. Instead, the judge found that the regulator had not established sufficient jurisdiction to pursue the case in that court. The dismissal focused on legal authority rather than the truth of the allegations themselves.

That distinction became important.

Supporters emphasized that the SEC’s case had been dismissed. Critics emphasized that the allegations had never been fully tested in court. Both sides pointed to the ruling as support for their position.

Even after the SEC case was dismissed, Heart remained the subject of public scrutiny.

Reports from Europe drew attention to investigations involving alleged tax issues in Finland. Public reporting referenced claims involving substantial sums of money and additional allegations that Heart has denied. As often happens with high profile figures, official allegations, rumors, online speculation, and partisan commentary frequently became intertwined.

Sorting through the noise has never been easy.

That may be one reason Richard Heart continues to generate so much attention. He represents more than a single cryptocurrency project. His story reflects many of the broader themes that defined the industry’s most turbulent years.

Crypto created enormous wealth for some people and devastating losses for others. It produced innovators, opportunists, loyal communities, and fierce critics. It rewarded bold personalities capable of capturing attention in a crowded market. Few personalities embraced that environment more completely than Heart.

Years after HEX first appeared, opinions about him remain deeply divided.

Some investors still view him as a visionary entrepreneur who challenged traditional financial systems. Others see a promoter whose projects became surrounded by controversy, regulatory scrutiny, and unanswered questions.

What is beyond dispute is his impact on the crypto conversation. Whether admired or criticized, Richard Heart became one of the most recognizable faces of an era defined by speculation, ambition, extraordinary fundraising, and constant controversy.

The arguments about his legacy continue today. Given the strong opinions on both sides, they are unlikely to end anytime soon.
